The Art of Polish Pottery, as we know it today, originated as local folk art centuries ago in the German province of Silesia. The first known “Bunzlauer” stoneware pieces date back to the 16th century, crafted by hand and decorated with a folk art stamping technique using potatoes. Original designs were inspired by the peacock feather, utilizing cobalt blue, sage green, and ferrous red colors that remain the inspiration for modern patterns. Skilled Polish artists individually handcraft and hand-decorate each piece using small sponges to stamp patterns and colors. After mixing ingredients, molding the pottery, applying decorations and glaze, the pottery is twice-fired, making it durable and resistant to cracking or chipping. It’s perfect for microwave, dishwasher, oven, and freezer use. This 4-piece place setting includes 1 dinner plate (10.5″ diameter), 1 dessert plate (7.75″ diameter), 1 cereal/soup bowl (6.5″ diameter x 2.75″ deep), and 1 coffee mug (16 oz., 4″ high).
